Skiing and Snowboarding Trek

February 25, 2006

The Skiing and Snowboarding Trek was great fun. We left the First United Methodist Church on Saturday morning in four cars around 6:20 in dense fog. Mr. Dlugolecki was too sick to lead the trek, and handed it over to Mr. Sturrock.

We arrived at Mountain High Winter Resort in Wrightwood, CA, around 7:30 am. It was 20 degrees and sunny. As the day went on the temperature rose until it was in the low 60s. Many scouts and adults had never skied or snowboarded before.

We took classes for snowboarding or skiing, such as all day Children’s Academy, Beginner Classes, and Winter Sports merit badge. When we finished our classes we were tired and VERY hungry. We ate lunch which felt so good!

Jonathan completed the Winter Sports merit badge. Everyone was a little bruised, but nothing was broken. We left Mountain High about 5 p.m., and returned to the First United Methodist church at 6:45.

Scouts attended: Rafael, Jonathan, Stephan, Adam G , Cameron, Eddie, Colin, Sean, Brent, John-Louis, Chris, Matthew, William, and Matthew.

Trek Leaders: Walt Sturrock and John Dlugolecki

Adults attended:  James DiSimone, Yadira Ramirez, and Ed Mercado.

Family members of scouts: Melissa, Debra, and Bernadette.
