Reagan Library
July 1, 2006

We arrived and left FUMC at 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. for the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley. We arrived there at 9:15 and waited 45 minuets for it to open. While we were there, we were able to walk around the grounds and see where Mr. Reagan is buried and an authentic piece of the Berlin Wall that Ronald Reagan was instrumental in its coming down.

Once the doors were open, we were divided into two groups of scouts for a guided tour lead by docents. The Library included his tomb, flowers, portraits of past presidents, history of Mr. Reagan, and a replica of the Oval Office, a temporary exhibit about the Calvary and more.

On the tour we went in and saw Air Force One, with the tail number 27000. This 707 carried several presidents but Ronald Reagan logged the most miles. We got to walk through the plane and see what the "flying Whitehouse" looks like. The 747 in which President Bush now flies was ordered during Mr. Reagan's administration. The tail number for the new Air Force One is 28000. So if you are ever on a plane and listen to the in-flight audio and hear a pilot or control tower mention 28-thousand - you'll know that's the president's plane.

The part of the Berlin Wall outside the museum, that by the way was donated by the founder of Carl's Jr., weighed 4 tons or 8,000 pounds. Then we had lunch and left the museum. We returned to FUMC at 2 p.m.
