Kayaking
San Diego, CA
June 23-25, 2006

We arrived at the FUMC at 2:00 p.m. and packed the trailer. We were on the road for San Diego by 3:50. We stopped two times to adjust the air pressure in the tires of the car pulling the trailer. We arrived at Fiesta Island Youth Camp around 7:30 p.m. We set up our tents at the Sand Dollar Camp Site, cooked dinner, and watched the Sea World fireworks at 10:00. We saw lots wild rabbits and heard crickets. It was warm when we went to bed at 11:00 p.m.

We woke up at 6:00 a.m. and made breakfast. Around 8:00, we left for the La Jolla Sea Caves to kayak. We parked in a nearly full parking lot at 8:40 where we met guides Mark and Roberto from Aqua Adventures who fitted us with helmets, vests, and oars. We walked to the boat ramp and launched two-person Kayaks in the surf. The sky was cloudy and the sea was a little cold (72 degrees). We kayaked about a mile to the sea caves. One kayak went into a cave to see if it was safe, but the sea was too rough, so we couldn't go in. We discussed the sea life, the home of Dr. Suess, and even saw a dolphin swim by! When we finished we paddled 2 - 3 miles. We paddled back to the beach and ate lunch from 11:30 to 12:30. After lunch, we went swimming in the ocean for about two hours. We shared Matt's boogie boards. Then we went back to camp and made dinner. The scouts played Capture the Flag on the large mostly vacant island, and Emily and Daniel joined us. Then there was a test to see who could make the best fire and Sean won. We all cooked s'mores over the fire and went to bed.

Sunday we rose at 7:00 a.m. and made breakfast. Around 9:00 we broke camp, held a Scouts Own and left Fiesta Island at 11:00. We stopped at Wendy's for lunch in Oceanside. We drove back to Burbank and arrived there at 3:00 p.m. An hour ahead of schedule!
We unpacked everything at FUMC and went home by 3:30.
