Horseback Riding
Griffith Park, Ca.
April 8, 2006

We gathered at the F.U.M.C. at 9:00 am. Mr. Merica and Mr. Roope lead us and a group of Webelos and family members to the LA Equestrian Center. We arrived there at 9:45.

We waited for Mr. Roope and Mr. Marcia to register our group. Then we separated into two lines, one line with helmets and one without helmets. The one with helmets got sized for horses. Then the others got their helmets and mounted their horses.

We were assigned three guides, and left on our tour around 10:30. Our horses traveled in a line playing follow the leader. When the horses galloped the scout's thought it was fun. We went through tunnels, and crossed a horse bridge over the LA river. We guided the horses along dirt trails, and across a mountain. From the top of the mountain we could see far across the sky to the LA Zoo and ABC TV Studios, and other parts of Glendale. Once and a while some of the scouts got scared of the horses when they acted unpredictable. It was the first horseback riding trek for many scouts and they were not used to them.

We arrived back at the stables at around 12:30 p.m. We took a group photo and had lunch under some nearby trees. We drove back to the F.U.M.C. around 1:00. It was a beautiful day with clouds and sun, with almost no dust on the dirt trails, and only a little mud.

It was a fun trek for scouts, Webelos, and family members, especially for those who have never gone horseback riding before.
