The biking trek was a lot of fun. We left First United Methodist Church on Saturday morning around 9; 30 am and drove with our bikes in the trailer to the Will J. Reid Scout camp in Long Beach. We set up camp as it lightly rained, and had lunch. We took a 15-mile practice ride towards the Queen Mary and back along the Los Angeles River Bikeway. It was raining when we started the ride, but it stopped a mile or two into it. When we got back to camp we worked on requirements like First Class cooking, sharpening an ax and using it to cut wood for kindling. After dinner we lit a campfire to dry out, get warm, and cook marshmallows. Mr. Welker told a good ghost story and then it rained a lot, so we went into our tents and went to sleep around 9 p.m. The next day it dried up and was sunny. We broke camp and biked to the Queen Mary. When we got there we did not have a chance to go on it. Instead we went on the Russian submarine Scorpion where we saw life size torpedo casing and looked through the periscope. Then we drove back to Burbank and put all the gear away. Scouts that attended were Jonathan [the SPL] Adam D, Stephan, Adam G, Trent, Jay, Cameron, Eddie, Colin, Kevin, Matt, and Sean. Trek Leaders: Mr,Dlugolecki and Mr. Sturrock Adults attended: Mr.Desimone, Mr.Seaver, Mr. Mercado, Mr. Ramirez, and Mr. Welker. Reported by Sean, Troop Historian, 1/19/06 |
