The Pre Camporee Trek was great fun. This trek was meant for the scouts to learn how to work together and to prepare for Camporee, which is a scout skills competition. We met up at FUMC at 7:00 a.m.. We found moldy food in a cooler (yuuuuuuuuuuck!). Then we left in three cars. We arrived at Firestone Scout Reservation at 9:00 a.m., and we setup our tents. Three tents were moldy, but the campsite was great. Then we worked on requirements, such as wiping and fusing rope. We learned how to lash staves together, and tie knots. We used these skills in a team building competition where we stood on the lashed staves and had to arrange ourselves in alphabetical order without touching the ground. We had sandwiches for lunch. Jonathan and his dad came late to our campsite and brought more tents. After that some scouts worked on First Aid and the rest of the scouts went on a hike with Mr. Merica and Mr. Sturrock. Then we made Dinner. We all learned or refreshed our memory of the Outdoor Code. We had a competition to build a camp gadget in the dark with a time limit of 15 minutes. We had a campfire and roosted marshmallows. Over night it rained as we heard the frogs from the stream croak. During the trek we saw wild rabbits, a hawk, lizards, deer, squirrel, and even a giant tarantula! On Sunday it was sunny as we made breakfast. We packed up and left around 10:00 a.m. and arrived at the FUMC at 12:30 p.m. (a half an hour a head of schedule.)
