Deep Sea Fishing
Redondo Beach Sport fishing Charters
September 15th, 2007

We spent a day fishing at sea by Catalina island on a chartered fishing boat, out of Redondo Beach. We caught a lot of wonderfully tasting fish and had a great time in the process.

We woke up around 4 a.m. and arrived at First United Methodist Church around 4:30 a.m. and left around 4:45 a.m. We drove to Redondo Beach Sport Fishing and arrived there around 6 a.m. while it was still dark. We waited for the boat to arrive (the "Spitfire", and got on the boat around 6:30 and left for Catalina. During the ride Walt Sturrock taught the scouts how to make knots and rig up their poles.

When we finally arrived at Catalina Island over two hours later, it was obscured by dense fog. There where a lot of pelicans and dolphins around us. We used squid links and sardines for bait. In the beginning we fished on the surface, 5 to 20 feet down in the water. First we fished on the surface in the first 1 to 20 feet for mainly sea bass. Then after a couple of stops we go to the deep parts by Catalina around 200 feet in depth. The scouts that have never done that before got really tiered, really fast.

We left Catalina around 3:30 pm.. and arrived back at the dock about 6:15 pm. While we where leaving the boat the captain complimented us on how well behaved the scouts were. On the way home we stopped at a fast food restaurant for dinner. We arrived back the First United Methodist Church around 8 p.m..
