Words of an Eagle Scout

Hello, I would like to thank all of you for coming to my Eagle Scout Court of Honor;

Family
Dad:    for always pushing to go farther and to go on all camp outs with for and spending time with me
Mom   for always standing with me and sewing on patches
Sister Emily    for your support

Leaders
Current leaders: (point out the leaders in the room, Cash, Mr. Olson, etc…)

Past leaders: (John McShane, Murry Heller, JR, Brad Recker, Bill Johnson, etc…), etc…

Mr Roope: thank you for setting the bar for me very high. At times I didn’t know how I would get to the next rank because you held me back to become a better leader and scout. I wanted to become Eagle because its (well, really cool) and because I wanted to be like you: you always help anyone and everyone the best you can, always giving your time even when your tired or exhausted, and I want to be able to help others like you do. You’re more than a Scout Master, you’re a real role model that truly inspires us to be better people.

Scouts
Fellow scouts: your help and friendship has helped me on trecks and become Eagle.
Older scouts: like Brandon, Chris, and Ryan that taught me how to be a good leader and how to deal with "problem scouts" (like myself) when I was younger. Believe it or not I was annoying on occasion, and they treated me fairly and taught me patience with others

Troop 209 everyone who helps make this troop great!

Friends
You have had a lasting impact that won’t be forgotten and that has and will always benefit my life
Especially thank my “other Mother” Kandie Soderstrom, who sewed all my patches, … and re-sewed them with each new rank advancement!

Verdugo Hills Council thank you for your time and help on my way to Eagle, especially Heidi Davenport for all your help

Sponsor: It’s easy to overlook our sponsor, the FUMC. But we are really fortunate for their support, this meeting place, the storeroom for our gear and the generous congregation who donate so much to us.

6 years on the trail
I started this journey 6 years ago. I worked extra hard on the ranks, at a fast pace. As I grew up 9 of the 10 scouts from my Cub Scout den dropped out, as well as other scouts in my patrol slowed down in rank Advancement or left Boy Scouts. Instead of a sports I’ve put most of my time into Scouting. Making Eagle rank was always my ultimate goal.

Attended most treks I’ve seen deserts to snow covered mountains, filtering water to boiling snow, riding a bike to snorkeling. Canoeing in Minnesota to hiking in Philmont.

Historian Reports On almost all the Treks I’ve gone on I’ve done Historian Reports for and most of the trek leaders can look at for a guide for on the next trek.

What I liked most about scouting is that it is not just a program in which friends meet and go camping. It makes a boy grow into a man, improves there skills, they gain a reverence for god and their country. Respect the outdoors, and learns to be trustworthy, kind, and help full to others.

Skills acuired First Aid, build bridges, start fire in the snow with no matches, knots, lashings, build igloos, and ski.

Archery during summer camp at Emerald Bay I began my love of archery. Now I am on JOAD archery team. Thank you Jim McQuarrie (my merit badge counselor and archery coach),for teaching me how to shot the BEST way.

High Adventure: Northern Tier: (canoed 72+ miles into Canada wilderness), Where I experienced a peacefulness like no other place, a love for nature that you have never experienced, fish that as the best fish you ever tasted and dehydrated food that you wish u didn’t had to eat.

Philmont: (hiked up to 11,300 ft and over 70 miles) where I learned to appreciate my possessions, family, modern inventions like electricity, cars, bikes and not having to hike or walk miles to friends or school

Sea Base: this Summer! Were we will canoe 5 miles in the ocean to an island in the Florida Keys and camp there for a week.

Triple Crown: Sea Base will mark my attending all 3 National Scout Camps, which means I will earned the “Triple Crown” award and patch, which few scouts have.

Mr. McShane: thank you for doing all the paperwork for all three high adventure camps and being my first Scout Master.

Fund raising: Worked to pay my own way for Emerald Bay, Northern Tier, Philmont, and Sea Base

Order of the Arrow Arrowman since 5/4/08, where I have pledged to provide cheerful service to others

Eagle Project was to build a Courtyard for special needs at Luther Burbank Middle School, they can have a dedicated place to work and study outside. They were delighted with the results, and the very next day it was used by them and by other students during breaks.

What it means to me to make Eagle it’s a continuing my service and always helping others.

Unforgettable experience, Thanks!!
